Did the update and it didn't ask for it to be activated. Nice work Seabass.

the people that experianced the Icon Packager activation issue
Is that the 'won't activate on install' issue or the 'can't find activate.exe' issue?
I have the latter, not the former ... just wondering if this update will help me or if it is only intended to fix the first issue.

I'm not able to get activate to work yet.
Apparently it is due to the three (ip, ipe, and shell extension) of them overwriting eachothers activation.
Shell extension is the one trying to start a nonexisting activate.exe in all users\...\iconpackager.
To those of you that had success activating IP.
Did you try starting IP, IPE and the shell extension (to test the latter rightclick a file, change the icon for the filetype via the 'Icon' tab then click Apply), one by one, twice?
If you did, without any activate screen then I sitting here scratching my head.
Btw, I installed through SDC as Impulse still wont work for me properly (both normal and full, latest modification date is 09 apr) if this might have any significance.

SDC did not get the update yet as far as I understood. Please check the last set of numbers on your version. If it is 163 then you still need to update. If you like I can send you a stand alone link that will still require activation.
Pictoratus I think the answer is Yes. Try it out and let me know.
Christolia that is the next thing. Activation means they couldn't use it really at all so the hotfix took precedent. Look for further updates for any outstanding bugs.
Philly - Thanks but the credit goes to the developers and Shirly for narrowing down the bug for us.

Still not skinned cd/dvd divers ,even manually ( Windows cannot find....acivate.exe )
I did get the same error after the update to 4.00.165 ...cannot find....acivate.exe
But I could change the drive icons from within IP by selecting Icons & Cursors > Drives, right click the drive and select Change Icon.
Note: This was in Individual Drive Mode, and asked for a re-boot of the computer after changing 3 icons for different drives.
The optical drives were skinned after the re-boot.

I'm still getting the same "can't find activate.exe" error and now my dvdrom isn't skinned. I haven't rebooted though.

@Seabass, It was on SDC, according to my first ticket reply referring to .165 (CYT-199472),
earlier than 02:38 PM (I guess it's in your timezone as I got the time from the ticket in esupport.stardock.com, but I can't say for sure).
In that ticket I've also pasted the full activate.exe commandlines which were issued by you for all 3 (IP,IPE, and shellext) places which demands activation (My firewall logs all executions).
If it is significant, the target file seems to be the exact same for all of them, but IPE and shellext doesn't have the same -appid parameter as IP.
Btw, don't try to merge my two active tickets as they're unrelated, but seems similar
due to an earlier failed merge.

I'm still getting the same "can't find activate.exe" error
Same here.
But I didn't need to put a serial number in after the first startup after upgrade. So that's a plus.

If you can start the IP main application without activating, but you get a can't find activate.exe when trying to change a icon with the Icon tab, then you have the same as me.
Shell extension tries to run activate from the wrong place, but you can copy IP's activate.* to that location.
IPE and Shell extension will ask for activation if IP main works, and if IPE and Shell extension works then IP main will ask for activation (I guess it's due to IP main application having a different appid than the rest, but still reads/writes the exact same file).

For me, IconPackger 4 current version is 3.99.142 and available version is 4.00.165. Yet the update option is not available
And this is from a fresh install after a reformat of my computer.

How about if you right click update or double click the software button?
If that dosen't do the trick try clearing the XML folder by clicking on the "?" help button > XML Public > delete all the files in the folder that pops up > restart Impulse.

How about if you right click update or double click the software button?
When i right click there is no update option and double clicking the software button loads IconPackager. I will try what you suggested now.
