If that dosen't do the trick try clearing the XML folder by clicking on the "?" help button > XML Public > delete all the files in the folder that pops up > restart Impulse.

Just tried that and still no update option

Pictoratus I think the answer is Yes. Try it out and let me know.

Nope, still getting the 'can't find ... activate.exe'

Never had the other activate problem

Still have an open ticket in with Support on that and some other issues, though ... waiting to hear back.

Don't know if this is a isue but Registration Info shows Iconpackager Registration in red and info as invalid In Impulse. Does this mean that next time there is a update that it isn't going to work? SDC Updated me to 4.00.165  and there was not a activation Issue.

Registration in red and info as invalid In Impulse

Never mind, Impulse is still in beta.

Are you a ObjectDesktop subscriber, or do you own the stand-alone version of IP3?

If you own the stand-alone version 3, you might not be able to upgrade to version 4 for free, depending on how long ago you bought IP3.

If you have a current ObjectDesktop subscription you should definitively not get this error and I would recommend to contact support.

I'm still getting the same "can't find activate.exe" error and now my dvdrom isn't skinned. I haven't rebooted though.

There are two different 'activate' issues. The one where the program asks for registration info and the one where the icon change causes a 'can't find Activate.exe' error. Thanks to input from other users here's what worked for me on the 'can't find Activate.exe' problem. Go to 'Impulse' and uninstall IconPackager. Reboot as required. Temporarily shut down any anti-virus and firewall software. Reinstall IconPackager. Run IconPackager. Re-activate any anti-virus and firewall software. Worked like charm for me.

We are still digging deep to replicate the issues people are having. Please keep the support emails coming and we will have these issues corrected for you.

The issue where the sig.bin was getting replaced by Icon Packager and Icon Explorer was cleared with the latest update to 4.00.165.

The can't find the activate.exe file often get fixed by reinstalling the software. This is often best done through Impulse. What is important here is to uninstall, restart, redownload/install, and restart again before you ever run Icon Packager 4 to clear the cache. As hallv5 says above if you have security software running try disabling it for a short while to get this installed.

The skinning issue with the dvdrom is skipped is an ongoing bug. Activation requires hotfixes and immediate attention so look for these updates before the skinning issue is totally addressed.

Thank for the update,Seabass.Maybe the package recoloring problems(not applying, duplicate but unusable files due to corrupted images) can be sorted out once these more pressing issues are handled.I deleted 15 of these files over the weekend. For now I won't recolor anything, and will wait for a solution.

Every release seems to have its own bumps and grinds no matter what. What I love is that our community is often providing constructive feed back on the situations that come up. It certainly makes my job much easier and also speeds up the updating we can provide. This isn't smoke blowing but a thank you for the help!

Wizard I don't know if I asked you this before but things are crazy busy so please forgive me if I have.

What OS are you on and can you get it to happen no matter what skin you use?

If you often see me asking the same questions to the same people (or sometimes the same thing to the same person) please excuse me as the more I can replicate and report on the more we can cram into the updates. Nothing personal I am just scattered and thorough at the same time.

No problem.Been there.   Vista Home basic,32 bit.nVidia6150SE I just updated my ticket with milksama, but basically any package I recolor(Nordagan and Conspiracy were worst)doesn't apply. It does create a duplicate file of icons but out of 15 of these I deleted over the weekend,5 were unusable, even manually.Torn up as per SS.I did update my video driver yesterday, so I'm going to retry a couple,I will let support know if it helped.Thanks.

Update: I just colored WCSelect IP,they are"distorted" (no filter applied)also darkened Nordagan, colors are "missing" They did apply, however only 4 of my 14 desktop shortcut icons actually changed Recycle, music, videos and user. Also it installs some packages in Public Documents/Stardock/Icon Packager, some in C/program files/Stardock/Object desktop/Iconpackager/Themes and some in both. Some with original, colored and back-up.I'm up to my elbows in icons Any way to fix that? I have the two bad files mentioned saved and will send them to support to look at,with your permission.SS of Conspiracy is #40 here.WWW Link Note the normal IE7 icon vs the colored one.

For the folks that are still experiencing this problem, I've been working with Travis from Stardock Support on this issue for a few days now. This issue is fixed!

What some of you may have to do is to first uninstall Icon Packager with Impulse, and to be safe, reboot your system. After reboot relaunch Impulse and then reinstall Icon Packager. Icon Packager and Icon Explorer should now be working without having to activate it!

If for some reason you can't uninstall from Impulse, then try to uninstall from SDC. But reinstall Icon Packager from Impulse!!

This worked for me and all of my packages are still here.

Good Luck to you all!

Did you try using the shell extension too?
- Rightclick a file
- Select Properties
- Go to the "Icon" tab.
- Change the icon via the "change icon" field, or the button
- Click apply.

For me the last step tries to run "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\IconPackager\activate.exe" (which doesn't exist)
If you do copy the activate.* from IP folder, then retry it I get a activate dialog.
If you then do activate, then the IP main program won't work without activating.

I've tried re-activating through Impulse etc, but no dice.

One major good point is, suddenly IP and IPE works properly without requesting an
activate, but sadly the shell extension doesn't.
