I would just like a quick check with our customers if some are still having issues with the Start menu docklet that comes built into Object Dock Plus. There seems to be some kind of inconsistency with this issue and was just curious if you could help me narrow down this bug.

I too am still having this core issue (startmenu helper file was injected....) off and on. I had this problem pretty soon after I bought it, back in Nov/Dec timeframe and based on other posts about resolution, ended up installed the latest beta version in order to get it reliably working. I'm now running v1.90 build 537u. I'm on WinXP SP2 with nVidia 7600 GT. What is weird is I'll go weeks without the problem, then all of a sudden it will happen w/o warning. The only way I've found to get the startmenu back is to completely restart my PC which is a real pain. Doesn't matter if I stop/start objectdock over and over, the startmenu will always fail once it fails the first time.I've got it throwing the error right now, and I don't have any programs running or open that I don't always have on an everyday basis. I've never been able to narrow anything down to something unusual I'm running or doing when it happens...it just does.Is there even work continuing on Stardock's side to further investigate and resolve this? I'd be happy to help troubleshoot and narrow down what is going on. Is anyone pursuing formal resolution for this issue?
Hi guys!
My first post here, so... First of all, I'd like to say thanks to everybody who was involved. It's a wonderful tool.
Unfortunately, I'm having the same problems as jswood. And Systray simply doesn't work too.
Running 1.90 535u @ XP PRO SP2.
I'm looking forward for these fixes.
Cheers,

Perfect that was what I was looking for. If you get the same issue with nVidia cards under these circumstances please just drop in a "Me Too" or something. If you manage to get this by any other means than Vista, WB6 animated, Start Menu docklet please post here with your info.Thank you Secret add on: on second thought can anyone with ATI reproduce this?
I have a 8600GT 512 MB and experience the same problem.
Running ObjectDock Plus on XP Pro SP2.

Temporary solution to this appears to be the use of the Windows key to bring up the Start Menu. Doesn't give any errors and "resets" in some way the docklet allowing further use. This isn't always valid (although the Windows key can be considered a "trustworthy ally") and personally believe that it's a DirectX related error (can be also connected with nVidia drivers not being compatible with certain DirectX framework used by ObjectDock).
Edit: Oh, sorry Seabass! I didn't read all your posts! Seems like you scored a Headshot right there on the bug! Good work!

My previous post was in regards to my machine at work. The exact same thing happened now on my home machine (worked fine until very recently.) The two machines are vastly different regarding the OS: one's on XP x32 SP2 and the other is Vista Ultimate x64. The one thing in common (other than the version of OD+): they both have NVIDIA video cards. So you might be on to something, H4ckJack; however the Windows key workaround did not seem to clear the OD+ problem for me.
It used to work on this (my home) machine/setup and somewhere along the way it stopped working.
OD+ v1.90 Build 537u (beta release)
Vista Ultimate x64
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT OC (also running dual monitors - these are CRT, though)
NVIDIA drivers 7.15.11.6375 (10/4/2007)
No other skinning software (except CursorXP), using all in-the-box docklets and skins
UPDATE: As if by magic, rebooting fixed the problem on this machine. (Rebooting doesn't help any for my previous report on the XP-SP2 machine.) I'm going to keep this post here, though, since it was exhibiting the behavior, at least temporarily.

When I click the start menu entry, the start menu is shown once and thereafter I get the following message:
StartMenu helper file was injected but failed to take effect.
The next time I click the start menu I get the followed message:
ObjectDock was unable to find the start menu to Show.
System spec.: Vista Home Premium SP1, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900, OD+ v.1.9 535u.

Hi all,
First of all I have to say I love objectdock- I dowloaded it a few days ago and have been playing around with it ever since. I am even tempted to pay for the plus version but this bug is bugging me. I would love to be able to dispose of the stock start menu button and task bar and use ObjectDock instead but the bug rules out that possibility.
It is apparent that this problem has been known about for a long time but a fix seems elusive. I have encountered it on two machines, both running XP SP2.
One has an Nvidia card, which seems to be a prime suspect. However the other has onboard Intel graphics so that does not add up.
Will it ever be fixed? I really, really hope so because I love this utility..!

I run objectdock at work and home primarily so that I can access my start menu and other programs directly on my
secondary monitor
. At home it works perfectly I have an older Dell laptop running an ATI card and Windows XP Home.
At work I have two issues:
- I get the above mentioned errors often when launching the start menu docket
- When the start menu does appear it shows up in the bottom left corner of the primary monitor (in the standard location) instead of dropping down from the objectdock start menu icon (which I have located top center of the secondary monitor).
Specs: Dell Dimension DXP061; Windows XP Pro; NVidia GeForce8600 GTS; Intel Core2 Quad @2.4Ghz
Though this is a little off topic a REALLY useful FEATURE would be that when using objectdock located on a secondary display that programs launched from it would default onto the secondary display. Including those launched from the objectdock start menu.
As a software developer I rely heavily on my secondary monitor especially when working from home; where I have remote desktop on my primary screen(external monitor) and my laptop panel acting as secondary. There really is a lack of tools to support working on secondary screens I hate moving windows back and forth all the time and having to disrupt work on my primary screen to launch things to move over to the secondary. If objectdock provided a solid solution for those types of problems I would buy the Pro version in a second.

Thanks guys.
I just wanted to update everyone that I am collecting this info still.
Many people have fixed this issue by rolling back to the last build. Do this by unchecking the "show pre-release" button at the bottom of the screen and updating the software. I don't know what the time line is on the next update but I am greatful to all that are helping us out with this beta.

I occasionally get the issue where the Startmenu dock starts in the wrong location then errors after that requiring OD restart.
By far the biggest issue is the delay before the Startmenu opens. 5 seconds is like an eternity when waiting for the Startmenu. Occsionally it will immediately pop up but very rarely.

Mitch the free version contains many bugs that have already been updated in the current version of Plus. Until Plus hits the next full release the freeware won't be updated. Sorry for that.
Mugam please check out post #57 or you can try the alpha available through Impulse
http://storage.stardock.com/files/Impulse_setup.exe
I recomend the alpha.
