Don't let the title fool you, WoW does matter. It matters to enough that if the people that play it all gathered in the same place you would have the 12th largest nation on earth by population (so says the latest data). The fact is that WoW redid the MMO genera and made it's own massive niche in the world of online gaming. But it has hit a lack luster feel to me and I used to play for days at at time. So why when the game came out, did I skip it and not reactivate my account? Easy, I was in...

There is just no way to list every great modification (mod) that has come and gone in the history of gaming. These modifications have created for us a way to breathe life back into games we love (or used to love). I like to think most mods are totally user created and add content but yesterday while I way playing Team Fortress 2 I started to question the "mod" aspect of the term. Truly to have respect for the people that create new content for their games these are the only things that c...

Atari has confirmed that they will become the new publisher for Ghostbusters: The Video Game since the title was dropped by Activision. Next year the original Ghostbusters will celebrate it's 25 year anniversary and will provide further proof that I am aging rapidly beyond the fact that childhood shows are now showing up on Nick at Nite. What I like about this franchise is that it seems to be truly beloved by the original creators since Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis are the ones whom have...

I have lived RTS and Strategy games the whole of my life. I look to them in the broadest of sense but enjoy them equally. I find that often I have strategist "moods" and I play the games based on them. Allow me to give an example. If I want to hurl myself at the enemy I break out Starcraft, Total Annihilation (and the Kingdoms version), Warcraft, Age of Empires, and the like. This isn't he gratification that FPS gives me with "boom head shot" screaming at my desk and further twitch style sati...

Gary Gygax, the co-founder of Dungeons and Dragons, held the Christan's Children's Fund to be his favorite charity cause. Even if you are not familiar with this charity you likely have seen the commercials with Pernell Roberts (looks like the real life Henry Jones from The Last Crusade) explaining to you how the children are starving and you can sponsor them. At this year's GenCon a charity auction raised $17,000 for the charity in Gygax name (whom passed away this last March 4th of an a...

As one of the greatest events of the year is Halloween. So with out further delay I present the game Zombie. Zombie (n): the reanimated dead, bent on destroying and consuming the living. The lore is thought to originate from the Vodou belief but according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary the etymology is from the Haitian Creole zonbi, of Bantu origin. Since 1968 when George Romero came out with his undead master piece Night of the Living Dead the zombie has been a part of lore ...

You might have heard that term before: "Core Gaming". It suggests that table top, board games, and to a lesser degree card games are the core of original gaming. I often feel back and forth on that statement. I am willing to concede that it was likely someone doing the parents-basement-gaming-thing that came up with a majority of the ideas surrounding modern gaming. Why they started with Pong I will never know but it seems likely. Born the arguable year of the Atari 2600 (if you add two yea...

With game profits in the billions and rising we are seeing the cannibalism of the game critic. They are turning on one another with passive agressive gang violence. The gamers perspective is left out from the hot critic on critic action we are getting these days. With the DRM war in pitch from the Spore release from EA and the firing of Geff Gertsmann from Gamespot we have no choice but to sink to the depths of conspiracy theory. Needless to say I still read Gamespot reviews but whe...

If you have not heard there is a new Star Wars MMO brewing: http://www.swtor.com/ Now even as a fan I tried out Star Wars Galaxies when it came out years and years ago. I, like many of the people at that time, thought it looked like reskinned Ever Quest junk. It also played horribly. It released based on the promise of the game massively improving when the Space Combat expansion came out. Well to make the long story short that sucked too, and so have the other five expansions (even one...

Years ago when I found out that Bill Roper was creating a team at his new company and the description of the game was called and I quote "Diablo 3D" with embarrass on the three twice if you get my meaning. To quantify all of the emotions wrapped up in this article I must explain the past several years of gaming for me. In high school Diablo came out and I was hooked. For my spring break I was grounded with with my best friend while all others were away. During the day we would work, then go h...

Do you remember Fable 1? I do, I played it a great deal. As a matter of fact myself and my roommates played it like some kind of religion. If you were waiting for it like we were then you, like us, were totally let down. What was promised was a realistic RPG of intense proportions. What we ended up getting was a really great action RPG game that was an enormous amount of fun. It was like you were promised a Mustang on your sixteenth birthday and instead they gave you three motorcycles for y...

Of late, and thanks to wireless and a laptop I am spending more time with my new wife watching the current shows that are on air. Since the writers strike (where writers were all mad that the reality TV stars were not following the scripts they labored over for hours, or something like that I can't remember) I have tried to adopt some of the new shows. This is what I am certain my cats feels like when she makes those wonderful choking sounds in the hallway. Night Rider - Never in my lif...
